This activity was intended to gather support in advocating with legislators the passage of the SFM Bill using an SFM draft Bill that is fully supported by concerned forestry stakeholders. An Agreement to this effect was reached and documented in the Minutes of Meeting (MoM). MoM was submitted in lieu of the MOU due to difficulty in gathering stakeholders’ signatories during the SFM Finalization Writeshop.
This activity was consistently undertaken through emails, calls, and text particularly with House Committee on Natural Resources Secretary Raul M. Terso and his staffs. Said communication channels allows SFFI to get updates on the passage of the SFM Bill at the House of Representatives level and participate in Committee meetings as Resource Group on the SFM Bill and related legislations.
This activity was conducted to determine gains and plot courses of actions with which the objective of having the SFM Bill passed will be achieved. This activity was conducted only on November 22, 2019 due to the successive meetings being called by Bill sponsors, Committee on Natural Resources, and other prospective sponsors of the SFM Bill. One of the concerns raised during the activity is the provision that a national standard be set mandating that at least 40% forest cover be maintained for ecological services.
