SFFI Recommends for Senate Support on Passing the SFM Bill

Virtual via Zoom — The SFFI National President Tommy T. Valdez recommended to the Senate Committee on Environment, Natural Resources, and Climate Change (SCENRCC) headed by Senator Cynthia Villar, the passage of the SFM Bill as a measure to mitigate severe erosion and flooding caused recently by typhoons Rolly (Goni) — recorded as the strongest tropical storm for the year 2020, Ulysses (Vamco), and Vicky (Krovanh).

“We recommend to the good Senator that the SFM Bill be passed as a national legislation to address the frequent and severe flooding events that continue to damage lives and properties in both rural and urban areas, year in and year out. We believe that this Bill is long overdue since its inception more than three decades ago,” manifested Forester Valdez during the December 16 meeting called for by the said Committee.

Senator Villar recognized the manifestation and requested that both the manifestation (presentation) be submitted together with the proposed SFM Bill for the Senate Committee’s information, review, and appropriate action.

Forester Valdez acknowledged the Senator’s request and submitted the requested documents immediately.

This SCENRCC meeting is part of a series lined up on the flooding cases that aims to gather information in aid of legislation.
